It costs over £500,000 a year to opertate The Animals' Refuge. Food, Veterinary treatment and care expenses for each individual animal soon mounts up. It costs £50 to keep a medium sized dog for a week. Essential vaccinations cost £38 for dogs alone. The cost of basic hoof care for a pony is around £20 every ten weeks. Neutering a female cat accounts for £42. The League receives no Government funding, and relies on the support and kindness of its friends to meet costs such as these.
2008 Appeal In recent years, we have been fortunate in being able to invest in building good facilities for our residents. Now we would like to create a dedicated Small Animal Unit for our rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pets; and an outdoor dog exercise area where dogs can enjoy some off-the-lead fun even in the worst of weather. This would be achieved through converting our exisiting hay barns into a single story block, with direct access to the indoor exercise area from the Kennels. A new hay shed will be also needed, and this will be situated in a service area close to the Stable Yard but away from the main visitor areas. Can you help us turn this dream into reality? Any gift that you feel able to make will be very much appreciated. If you would like to make a gift towards the work of the League, please download our Appeal 2008 donation form, and post it with your donation to: The Animals' Refuge Oak Tree Farm Wetheral Shields Carlisle Cumbria CA4 8JA Cheques should be made payable to "The Animals' Refuge". You can also make a donation using a debit card by phoning the Refuge office. Please have your card to hand when you call. Thank You.
