A Cat Show with a Difference

Last year, we held our first ever cat show. The cats had told us that while they enjoyed their place in the limelight, they didn't want the inconvenience of traveling to the Refuge and putting up with other cats, so everything was done by photograph. This meant that even cats from outside the Carlisle area could take part, without the indignity of traveling baskets or disruption to territory patrol duties and snoozing schedules. The Fabulous Photogenic Felines Competition took place at the Autumn Fair, and there were almost 140 entries to the various  classes.                                                                                   Winners of the 2008 Cat Show

The second Fabulous Photogenic Felines Competition (for cute kitties everywhere) took place at this year's Autumn Fair on Saturday 20th September. This year, there were eight fun classes with prizes in each class for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The new class has been introduced by popular demand from humans who are still missing their much loved late pets. It will be called "Happy Memories", and will be open to people who want to enter photographs of treasured cats who have passed on, in celebration of the life they shared. The winners in each class will go on to compete in the Best in Show for the title "Most Purrfect".There was a fantastic response as the entries came flooding in and the Refuge raised £104 on entries alone. After the voters were busy choosing their favourites, the votes were counted and the winners emerged, the prizes were presented with rosettes from 1st to 4th place and cat toy prizes for the hard working cats who proudly posed for the photographs. Ruth Coates with Charlie won overall and were presented with the Most Purrfect rosette and title, Well done Ruth and Charlie. We would like to congratulate all our winners and thank all cats who took part, the photographs were wonderful, also it was lovely to see so many familiar faces, human and feline alike. Finally a reminder to keep those cameras handy as that Purrfect picture for next year could happen at any moment.
